Opting To Rent Slit Seeders To Help Improve Your Lawn
Many people have been in the situation where large areas of their lawn become sparse and something needs to be done. There are a number of different ways you can deal with this problem. One of the methods people can try is to rent split seeders in order to aerate their lawn and drop the new seed into the newly prepared ground. Using these machines can be a lot easier than trying to rake up the top of the lawn on your own and then seeding it by hand, especially if you are dealing with a very large area.
There are a number of different equipment companies that rent slit seeders out to people for this purpose. However, sometimes it might be difficult to find one in your area. You might have to try a few different places before you find what you are looking for.
There are split seeders you can rent that are meant for smaller jobs and also some that are meant for larger jobs. Options include machines by BlueBird, Toro, Husqvarna, Turfco and Jacobsen for those looking to rent slit seeders for their own use. For particularly large jobs there is the Ryan 548 Aero-Blade and seeder by Jacobsen and the Aerothatch 83 with 93 seeder by Toro.
Once you rent slit seeders, you need to use them properly. First you need to prepare the ground where you are going to use them. You will want to cut any grass that is already there as short as possible, then you want to spray with a weed killer to kill off any seed that might be there. After that you wait one to one and a half weeks for the grass and weeds to dry out, then prepare the soil by raking and getting rid of any loose dead plants so that the seeds will hit the soil. You can then run the slit seeder you rented over the area in a grid pattern, east to west and then north to south. It is best to rent split seeders for this since rototillers will push any remaining weed seeds into the ground and make it more likely you will get weeds. You will want to fertilize the area and keep in moist in order to ensure optimal grass growth.
